Our CRUISE / RENDEZVOUS will be held Friday, September 6 - Sunday, September 8, (Monday, September 9)
In anticipation of the 2024 boating season, we are pleased to announce that the destination for this year's Cruise / Rendezvous is Block Island, R.I.
Our fleet will be docked at Champlin's Marina & Resort in New Harbor, which also offers us shoreside accomodations. The dates will be Friday, September 6th - Sunday, September 8th.
This will be our Club's twentieth (20th) annual Cruise / Rendezvous ! Of course, as with past cruises, some of our participants may like to stay over until Monday, the 9th to enjoy an extra day of informal Club camaraderie.
Our weekend will commence on Thursday evening, September 5th at 18:30 hours with a Captain's Meeting to be held on the Club's BBQ Patio. Our cruisers will then "set sail" for Block Island on Friday, the 6th.
The Cruise events on Block Island will commence on Friday evening at 18:30 hours with our traditional Cruise "Welcome" Cocktail Party, aboard Howard Meyer's MY Ingot, which will be docked at Champlin's Marina & Resort in New Harbor. This is guaranteed to be an awesome evening.
On Saturday evening, September 7th the Cruise Shoreside Dinner Party will be held under a tent at Champlin's Marina & Resort. It will also commence at 18:30 hours. We anticipate quite a wonderful evening overlooking Great Salt Pond.
The cost per participant is $250. for the weekend and will be billed to your SHYC account. The club will once again contribute significantly to help subsidize this event.
Those coming by boat should make arrangements for dockage as soon as possible at Champlin's Marina & Resort via Dockwa.com. We have negotiated a special group rate of $4.00 per foot, per night for our Cruisers. When making your reservation, please write "Sag Harbor Yacht Club Cruise" in the reservation notes. The rate will be adjusted accordingly after the deposit has been taken. Should you have any questions, please contact Ms. Ryann Liquori of Champlin's at 609-290-9919.
We would like to remind our Cruisers that, although many participants will sail / motor to Block Island on their own boat or crew on a fellow member's boat, members and their invited guests may also choose to travel by ferry via the Viking Fleet's Montauk to Block Island Ferry or by small plane.
We have negotiated special room rates for our group at Champlin's Marina & Resort or you can stay at another local hotel, inn or B&B and participate fully in the weekend's events. To reserve a room at Champlin's, please contact their Reservation # 800-762-4541 and tell them that you are part of the Sag Harbor Yacht Club Cruise group. Room rates are attached below. To ensure that you receive these special rates, you must book your slip and / or room(s) no later than July 7th. A quick note, should you be planning on shoreside accommodations, whether at Champlin's or elsewhere, it would be wise to make them as soon as possible, as our Cruise is in direct competition for space on Block Island with weddings and other events at this time of year.
To join this year's Cruise / Rendezvous, please click on the following attached links for the Entry Application and the Captain's Responsibility & Waiver form. Please print, complete & return both documents to us by mail to: Cruise Committee, Sag Harbor Yacht Club, PO Box 1988, Sag Harbor, NY 11963, as soon as possible to reserve your space. Should you be interested in joining as crew on another member's boat or are looking for crew, please make a notation to that effect on your Entry Application. We will do our best to accommodate you.
Please note that email submissions WILL NOT be accepted or processed, as we need a paper trail.
We have an attendance limit of 75 members and guests for this event and must provide the caterers with a guaranteed number of participants expected to attend, as well as a substantial, non-refundable advance payment. Due to these issues, it is important that those planning on attending confirm their plans in writing with us as soon as possible. Due to this, cancellations will not be accepted beyond August 27, 2024 and should you cancel after August 27th, your club account will be billed the full amount due for your reservation.
Without exception, the previous nineteen Cruise / Rendezvous' have been enjoyed by all in attendance, with new participants joining-in each year. Don't miss what promises to be yet another excellent Sag Harbor Yacht Club Cruise / Rendezvous !

The 2024 boating season will bring Sag Harbor Yacht Club its 19th Cruise / Rendezvous. This great event, held annually (with exception of 2020), the weekend following Labor Day, has become a Yacht Club tradition. Participating members and their guests cruise by power or sail and sometimes "land yacht", to a shoreside location in the Eastern Long Island / New England area. Past cruises have landed SHYC cruisers in Newport, RI, Mystic, CT., Block Island, RI, Essex, CT, or Mystic Seaport.
During past cruises, participants have enjoyed private tours of such nautically significant icons as the International Yacht Restoration School and the restoration of the Schooner Yacht Coronet in Newport, the restoration of the Whaleship Charles W. Morgan at Mystic Seaport and the Herreshoff Museum & Americas Cup Hall of Fame in Bristol, RI. Fine dining, has also been a hallmark of this event, with Saturday evening shoreside dinner parties and lobster boils. Whether held under a tent on the Herreshoff waterfront during a gale, or on the porch of The National on Block Island looking out over the Atlantic, or on the cove at the Essex Yacht Club, all have been quite special.
We look forward to again sharing our cruising experience with our "regulars", and invite members and their guests who have not experienced our rendezvous, to join us for this years event.
